Montgomery County Food Safety Inspections Reveal Serious Violations
Recent food safety inspections conducted by the Montgomery County Office of Public Health have uncovered significant violations in several dining establishments throughout the area. Conducted from October 26 to November 1, 2025, these inspections highlighted issues ranging from inadequate food storage to unsanitary conditions, raising concerns about the safety of dining in these establishments.
The inspections are part of an annual review process, where each facility is evaluated for compliance with health regulations. While inspectors aim to provide a snapshot of the establishment’s cleanliness at the time of inspection, many violations are often corrected immediately. In cases where serious issues are found, establishments may face additional inspections or even legal action.
Notable Violations Found During Inspections
Several restaurants received critical remarks for violations that could endanger public health. For instance, the Nudy’s Café of Ardmore was cited for the presence of rodent-like droppings and a deceased cockroach in a trap located in the dry storage basement area. The establishment has been given ten business days to provide proof of pest control treatment to the health department.
The Abington Pizzeria & Family Restaurant was also flagged for lacking a Certified Food Sanitation Manager, a requirement that mandates facilities to have trained personnel ensuring compliance with health codes. Additionally, improper food storage practices were observed, including food stored on the floor in walk-in refrigerators and improper temperature control of various food items.
Immediate Actions Required from Food Establishments
The inspections revealed that many establishments need to take immediate action to rectify their violations. For example, El Limon was found to have garlic in oil stored at room temperature, which poses a risk for bacterial growth. This item was discarded, and the facility must improve its food storage practices to comply with safety regulations.
Moreover, the Souderton Family Restaurant voluntarily discarded expired sauces and cut strawberries that were not kept at the proper temperature, demonstrating a proactive approach to food safety. Nonetheless, they received a warning regarding other storage issues, including single-use containers that were improperly stored.
Restaurants are encouraged to utilize the Montgomery County food safety inspection database to check their compliance history and learn about best practices for maintaining health standards. The health department emphasizes that these inspections are vital for ensuring public confidence in local dining options.
For anyone experiencing illness after dining at a restaurant, the MCOPH advises using their complaint form to report concerns. The health department does not conduct restaurant inspections itself, but rather oversees the compliance of food establishments to protect public health.
As the food industry continues to navigate these complex regulations, the emphasis on food safety cannot be overstated. Establishments that consistently fail to meet health standards may face serious repercussions, including the potential for closure.
