Explore Art, Music, and Community Events in Mid-Hudson Valley
A series of engaging community events are taking place in the Mid-Hudson Valley throughout January and February 2026, offering opportunities for creativity, learning, and social engagement. From art workshops to musical performances, residents of all ages can participate in a variety of activities designed to foster connection and cultural appreciation.
Art and Music Workshops for Teens
Beginning on January 31, a weekly art and music workshop will cater to teens aged 12 to 18 at the United Methodist Church located at 153 Main St., Port Ewen. The workshops, running every Tuesday from 18:00 to 19:30 until the end of March, provide all necessary materials and include healthy snacks. Another enriching opportunity is the Saugerties Adult Learning Community which invites registrations for its final winter presentation titled “The Esopus People: Indigenous History in New Paltz.” Scheduled for February 4 at 11:00, this free Zoom event requires prior registration, which is currently open. Zachary Veith from Historic Huguenot Street will explore the history and culture of the Esopus people, including their encounters with European colonizers in the 17th century.
Ongoing Events and Exhibitions
English as a Second Language (ESL) tutoring sessions are available at the Phoenicia Library every Thursday from 18:00 to 19:00. Led by librarian Susan, the free lessons welcome individuals at all levels of proficiency. More information is available at (845) 688-7811 or [email protected].
The Hudson River Maritime Museum is set to host its “Museum Mates” children’s activity series on the first Saturday and third Thursday of each month at 11:00. Each session offers a blend of crafts, storytelling, and Lego activities, with tickets priced at $10 for Lego and storytelling days, and $15 for craft days. Art enthusiasts can also visit the Apuzzo Hall Gallery at the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center to view the exhibition “Parts and Pieces: A Conversation in Collage, Pottery, and Memory.” Featuring local artists such as Robert Ohnigian, the exhibition is open until March 14.
In addition to art exhibitions, the Ellenville Junior High School Drama Club will present its production of “Shrek The Musical, Jr.” on January 31 at 19:00. Tickets, priced at $6, can be purchased at the door.
Several exhibitions are currently underway, including “Wildflorus: Shawangunk II” at the Gardiner Library, which runs until January 29, and “Waxworks” at the Woodstock Artists Association & Museum, showcasing nearly 40 artists through March 8.
The upcoming “Black Excellence: A Legacy in Color” art exhibition at the Muroff-Kotler Visual Arts Gallery at SUNY Ulster opens on February 4, celebrating Black History Month. The exhibition will remain on display until February 20 and features a free opening reception from 12:30 to 14:30.
Community members are encouraged to participate in civic engagements, including a workshop titled “How to Deepen Your Commitment to Civic Engagement” on February 7 at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Kingston. This workshop will provide insights into becoming more actively involved in local governance and community initiatives.
Opportunities for entertainment also abound, such as a concert by the West Point Band on January 31 at 14:00 at Studley Theatre, and a film screening of the animated feature “SOUL” on February 22 at the Ulster Performing Arts Center.
These events highlight the vibrant cultural life of the Mid-Hudson Valley, encouraging residents to engage with their community through art, education, and civic participation.
