Credit Union of Colorado Foundation Offers $25,000 in Grants to Teachers

The Credit Union of Colorado Foundation has announced the second round of grant funding for teachers in Colorado, aiming to enhance classroom resources as the new school year approaches. This initiative, in partnership with the education nonprofit DonorsChoose, will provide essential financial support to educators at designated Equity Focus Schools across 12 counties in Colorado.
So far, the foundation has allocated $25,000 to support 112 teachers and fund 56 projects at 73 schools. Teachers are encouraged to apply for these grants at any time, with funds available for materials, programs, and activities focused on promoting financial literacy. Applications can be submitted through the DonorsChoose platform.
Supporting Teachers in Underserved Communities
Phil Smith, board chair of the Credit Union of Colorado Foundation and president and CEO of the Credit Union of Colorado, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “As students head back to school in the next few months, many teachers will lack adequate funding for classroom projects, which is why the Credit Union of Colorado Foundation is expanding our support to supply additional grants directly to Colorado teachers,” he stated.
Smith highlighted that by investing in teachers, the foundation empowers them to deliver high-quality instruction and create impactful learning experiences for students across the state. This initiative not only enhances education but also reflects the foundation’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy within the communities it serves.
Grant eligibility is specifically extended to teachers working at DonorsChoose-designated Equity Focus Schools within counties where the Credit Union of Colorado operates. These counties include Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Fremont, Jefferson, La Plata, Mesa, Pueblo, and Weld.
DonorsChoose defines Equity Focus Schools as those where at least 50% of students are from historically marginalized backgrounds, including Black, Latino, Native American, Pacific Islander, or multiracial students. Additionally, a minimum of 50% of students must qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating significant economic need.
Community Engagement Through Grant Matching
The Credit Union of Colorado Foundation is also matching any donations made to funded projects, encouraging a community-driven approach to educational support. Those interested in learning more about the funded projects or contributing can visit the foundation’s partner page for additional information.
