Members of the Upper Darby Fire Department came together on November 25, 2023, to distribute more than 40 food boxes for Thanksgiving meals. This community initiative aimed to support families in need during the holiday season.

Community Support and Organization

The event was organized by retired Chief Ed Cubler, a lifelong Upper Darby resident who has dedicated decades to collecting and organizing Thanksgiving food baskets for local families. Alongside the firefighters of IAFF Local 2493, Chief Cubler worked diligently to ensure that those less fortunate would have a festive meal to celebrate the holiday.

On the day of the distribution, firefighters, their families, and the new Fire Chief Nick Martin gathered at the Cardington fire station. Together, they assembled and delivered the boxes efficiently, showcasing a strong commitment to community service.

Joshua Laubach, the Shop Steward for IAFF Local 2493, expressed pride in the collective effort, highlighting the involvement of both current and retired members of the fire department. “It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together for this cause,” Laubach stated.

Delivering Holiday Cheer

The food boxes included full meals and additional items to ensure families could enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving feast. By providing these essentials, the Upper Darby firefighters aimed to make a positive impact on the community, reinforcing the spirit of giving that characterizes the holiday season.

This initiative not only addressed immediate hunger but also fostered a sense of community among residents and firefighters alike. The dedication displayed by the Upper Darby Fire Department exemplifies the importance of local organizations in supporting their communities during challenging times.

As Thanksgiving approaches, such acts of kindness remind us of the vital role that community service plays in uplifting those in need. The Upper Darby Fire Department’s commitment to this cause is a testament to their service and dedication, ensuring that the holiday spirit reaches every household in their community.
