Hailey Bieber Reveals PRP and PRF Injections as Beauty Secrets
Hailey Bieber has opened up about her beauty routine, specifically her preference for PRP and PRF injections over more traditional options like Botox. During her appearance on the “In Your Dreams” podcast, she discussed her reluctance to use Botox and highlighted these two innovative treatments as her go-to methods for maintaining youthful skin.
Understanding PRP and PRF Treatments
According to Dr. Jason Diamond, a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, and PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, are medical procedures that utilize a patient’s own blood to promote healing and rejuvenation. These treatments harness the body’s natural properties to enhance skin quality without relying on fillers or diluted botulinum toxin, commonly found in Botox.
The processes for PRP and PRF differ significantly. For PRP, a small amount of blood is drawn and processed using centrifugation to concentrate the platelets. This concentrated plasma is then injected into the targeted treatment area. Dr. Diamond noted that this plasma can also be applied topically after procedures like laser treatments or microneedling.
In contrast, PRF employs a slower centrifugation method to produce a gel-like substance. “PRF focuses on the natural fibrin matrix that forms during blood processing,” explained Dr. Diamond. This gel contains platelets, white blood cells, and a fibrin matrix, which can result in a more comprehensive healing response. While the absorption of PRF may take longer than PRP, it offers a sustained release of growth factors, leading to enhanced skin volume and overall improvement.
Benefits and Considerations
Both PRP and PRF treatments are designed to improve skin tone, texture, and elasticity. In his signature “Diamond InstaFacial,” Dr. Diamond combines these treatments, injecting PRF into areas with fine lines, tear troughs, acne scars, and wrinkles. Additionally, he applies these techniques for hair restoration, emphasizing improved scalp health and increased blood flow to promote denser hair for those experiencing thinning or loss.
Eligibility for PRP and PRF is broad, but individuals with certain health conditions, such as blood disorders or autoimmune diseases, should consult their medical provider before undergoing treatment. Leah Corredora, a board-certified physician assistant at JECT, mentioned that side effects are generally minimal, often limited to mild swelling and bruising that can be easily concealed with makeup. Since these treatments utilize the patient’s blood, the risk of allergic reactions is extremely low.
Hailey Bieber’s candid remarks about her beauty regimen shed light on the growing popularity of PRP and PRF among individuals seeking non-invasive cosmetic solutions. As these treatments gain traction, they exemplify a shift towards utilizing the body’s natural healing capabilities for aesthetic enhancements.
