Delta Dental of Oklahoma Launches Free Oral Health Programs for Kids

Delta Dental of Oklahoma, in collaboration with its Foundation, is offering free interactive oral health programs designed to educate children on the importance of dental hygiene. This initiative comes in response to ongoing concerns about inadequate oral health care in Oklahoma, especially among younger populations. Studies indicate that students experiencing poor dental health are more likely to miss school and achieve lower academic performance.
Terrisa Singleton, director of the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation, emphasized the significance of fostering good oral hygiene habits early in life. “Championing positive oral hygiene is key to setting up kids for a lifetime of good dental health,” Singleton noted. Through programs like Captain Supertooth and MouthScience, the Foundation aims to empower children to take charge of their dental health while contributing to the overall oral wellness of Oklahomans.
Innovative Programs for Educators
The DDOK Foundation offers two complimentary programs for educators throughout the state. The first, Captain Supertooth, is designed for pre-K through third-grade students. This engaging dental education program features a superhero mascot that teaches children about the benefits of maintaining good dental hygiene. Schools interested in scheduling an in-person performance can do so by visiting CaptainSupertooth.com.
The second initiative, MouthScience, provides kits that help illustrate the levels of acid and sugar found in common beverages. This program encourages students to make healthier choices to better protect their teeth. Each kit comes equipped with all necessary materials for teachers of third through sixth grades to conduct hands-on science experiments, all aligned with Oklahoma Academic Standards. Interested educators can request a kit by visiting DDOKFoundation.org/MouthScience.
Both initiatives are available at no cost to Oklahoma classrooms. Additionally, every student participating in either program will receive a free toothbrush to help maintain their oral health.
Commitment to Oral Wellness
Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation’s efforts reflect a broader commitment to enhancing oral health and wellness in the community. By equipping children with knowledge and tools to care for their teeth, the Foundation strives to address the disparities in dental care access and education.
