A suspect was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing a vehicle into a family home in Yakima County, Washington. According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 1:49 a.m. when the vehicle collided with a bedroom, causing a fire that spread to the house.

Emergency responders arrived at the residence located in the 6000 block of Ahtanum Road. All four residents of the home, along with the driver, were evacuated and received medical attention. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The adult male occupant of the room affected by the crash was unharmed.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, which had spread from the vehicle to the interior of the home. In addition, Pacific Power arrived at the scene to address safety concerns related to downed power lines. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family, as the incident rendered their home uninhabitable. The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with additional information regarding the crash to reach out by calling 509-574-2500.

This incident highlights the potential dangers of impaired driving and the importance of community preparedness in emergency situations. All responders acted swiftly to ensure the safety of those involved, preventing further harm and damage.
